Precautionary Boil Water Advisory Issued for Customers of FCWSA Paris Water System
Failure to follow this precautionary advisory
could result in stomach or intestinal illness.
As a result of a power failure and resulting decrease in water pressure in your area, the Fauquier County Water and Sanitation Authority (FCWSA) has issued a Precautionary Boil Water Advisory for the customers of FCWSA’s Paris Water System. FCWSA is advising customers in Paris to use boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking and cooking use as a safety precaution. This precaution is necessary because a power failure has resulted in a decrease in water pressure in parts of the Paris Water System below acceptable levels.
Boil your tap water for one minute before consumption.
A precautionary boil water advisory is issued following a loss of water system pressure because periods of low or no pressure increase the potential for the introduction of bacteria into the water system.
Boiling is the preferred method to assure that tap water is safe to drink following a loss of water pressure. FCWSA Paris Water System customers are asked to bring all tap water to a rolling boil, let it boil for one (1) minute, and let it cool before using it. If you cannot boil your water for any reason, use bottled water.
Consumption includes drinking, brushing teeth, making ice, food preparation, fruit and vegetable washing and the preparation of baby formula. Customers do NOT need to boil water prior to using it for showering or bathing.
Boiled or bottled water should be used until further notice. FCWSA is conducting water testing to confirm its safety. We will inform you when you no longer need to boil your water. We anticipate resolving the problem within the next 24-48 hours.
